Slimming Down this Season with Skinny Trees
No, it’s not a new diet. But it is a new trend. Artificial Christmas trees are getting skinnier, sporting sleek silhouettes this holiday season. It is nice to lose weight during the holiday season, and apparently artificial trees want to get in on the game. This is fine with most consumers, since a skinny tree means a skinny price tag.
The trend toward slim, or pencil, trees is due to a downsizing economy. Americans are changing their living quarters, moving from larger homes to smaller homes, from condos to apartments, from apartments to their parents’ basement. And although consumers may be downsizing their homes and spending habits, they still want high quality artificial Christmas trees.
The trees may be slim, but the pickings ain’t. Trees on the market range from 5’ to 7.5’ and come pre lit, with prices ranging from $80-$250. Almost all are made from PVC (like most artificial Christmas trees), and style options run to the traditional green, although there are few alternatives in white and flocked. All are designed to suit budgetary and space needs.
Because these artificial Christmas trees are so slim, there is usually no need to move furniture, as with full-size Christmas trees. There are all sorts of corners and niches that a pencil tree can fit into, so get creative. They look especially nice in front of a mirror, which will reflect the hundreds of lights on a pre lit artificial Christmas tree, making your tree – and your room – bigger. They’re gorgeous when flanked by poinsettias if you have more space to work with.
Artificial pencil trees are perfect as second, or third or fourth, trees for the home. They look great when decorated with a theme or color scheme, and handle very well up to three colors at one time. This is a great idea especially if the room is small; too many ornaments of different colors on the tree can hurt the eye within a small space.
These new slim artificial Christmas trees are friendly to the wallet and smaller abodes. Whether the pencil tree serves as the main tree or the accent tree, it’s perfect for filling up just the right amount of space.
