1. The most important of the Christmas tree decorating tips is to place the tree in the right place. Keep the tree at a distance of three to four feet from the fireplace or any other heat source in the home.
2. The tree should be placed in a location that is near an electrical outlet to avoid running cords around the house. Extension cords can create an obstruction and can get tangled up with pets, small children, and other furniture.
3. Decorating with artificial trees that are labeled by the National Safety Council as fire resistant is highly recommended.
4. No matter how appealing they may look, lighted candles are dangerous and cannot be used as decorations. Consider electric candles instead.
5. When using a step stool or ladder in large Christmas tree decorating, ensure that it is strong and sturdy and joints are hinged securely. To give extra support, ask someone to hold and secure it in place.
6. Avoid mixing edible ornaments such as candies and popcorn with non-edible ones especially when you have kids or pets at home.
7. Glass ornaments can fall off the tree and shatter. Keep an eye out on the area surrounding the tree for any traces of broken glass.
