World's Famous Christmas Trees
The Christmas tree has long been a tradition for many Americans, but now, Christmas trees are all symbols of the holiday festivities all over the world. Mostly large and lavishly decorated, some of the Christmas trees sometimes signal the start of the holiday itself. Christmas tree lighting ceremonies and unveilings of the most beautiful Christmas tree specimens all over the world, like the one at Rockefeller center (more on that later,) have now become part of the Christmas tradition, and with these Christmas tree displays all over the world, it’s easy to see why.
- The Emirates Palace Hotel Christmas Tree
Unveiled on December 15, 2010, the Emirates Palace Hotel Christmas tree is touted as the most extravagant Christmas tree in the world. The Christmas tree is found at the Emirates Palace, a luxury hotel in the United Arab Emirates, which is a self-dubbed seven star hotel. In February 2010, Emirates Palace introduced a week-long package stay at for $1 million US, and in May they premiered a gold vending machine, making this Christmas tree their third luxurious offering. Worth $10,000, this Christmas tree was decorated with rubies, diamonds, pearls and sapphires. It boasts a total of 181 diamonds, pearls, emeralds, sapphires and other precious stones around its body, decorated with earrings, necklaces and brooches of the real thing.
- The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree
Probably the most famous Christmas tree on the list, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is one New York tradition that is known all over the world. Lit in late November or early December, this tradition started in 1931, which is the year that 30 Rockefeller Plaza opened. Since then, (except 1932) a Christmas tree has been lit in front of Rockefeller Center, with different themes every year. Usually a Norway Spruce is used for the Christmas tree, with heights spanning 69 to 100 feet.

An outdoor Christmas tree decorated near the White House, this tradition started in the administration of President Calvin Coolidge. Lit by the President every year, the National Christmas tree has been a tradition since 1924, and recently the Christmas tree lighting ceremony has been televised as the beginning of a month-long series of events called the Pageant of Peace.

Since 1961, the First Lady has decided the theme of the White House Christmas tree. North Carolina is the state that has provided the most Christmas trees to the White House. Officially, the Christmas tree in the Blue Room in the White House is known as the White House Christmas tree.
- Mount Ingino Christmas Tree
Found in Mount Ingino, Italy, this Christmas tree is lit every year on the slopes of Mount Ingino in Gubbio. In 1991, the Mount Ingino was declared The World’s Largest Christmas tree by the Guiness Book of World Records. Since 1981, this tree has been lit on December 7 every year. Volunteers decorate the tree in a span of three months before lighting.
- Floating Christmas tree in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
Standing at 278 feet, the floating Christmas tree in Rio De Janeiro is the world’s Guinness Book of Records Holder for the largest floating Christmas tree in the world. Extravagantly lit, this Christmas tree is illuminated with 2.9 million lights and 1,600 Christmas ornaments, which required 32 miles of cables to light. To prevent CO2 emissions, this tree is powered by biodiesel generators.
